No matter if you are at a big-time College game, NFL Stadium or the local high-school creating an awesome tailgate experience doesn’t take much. Here’s one guy’s opinion of items to consider for an unforgettable tailgate. Please keep in mind your mileage will vary depending on the number of guests, location, climate etc. The number one rule is to have fun and enjoy the game.
- Grill and Cooking Supplies: let’s be honest, the main attraction at any decent tailgate is the food. With all the advances in outdoor cooking there is no excuse not to have amazing food.
- Portable grill: what’s a tailgate without brats, burgers and dogs – be a tailgate hero with this easy to transport Tailgate Grill
- Blackstone: these versatile Blackstone griddle allows tailgate chefs to step up their game with breakfast, Philly cheesesteaks, fried rice and more!
- Pizza Oven: this Portable pizza oven from Ooni is perfect for fresh pizzas at a tailgate.
- Grilling utensils (tongs, spatula, grill brush): don’t forget your utensils – you don’t want to be the guy burning himself. This utensil set with carrying case is perfect for a tailgate chef!
- Aluminum foil and cooking spray: don’t forget these basics.
- Food and Beverages: now that you have the grill sorted out you need to plan a menu. There should be something for everyone and ideally the food should be easy to eat.

- Condiments (ketchup, mustard, mayo, pickles, etc.)
- Buns and bread
- Snacks (chips, pretzels, popcorn, etc.)
- Cooler with a variety of beverages (water, soda, beer, etc.). I prefer Guinness to help with pacing myself and a nonalcoholic Hoplark
- Ice packs or bags of ice
- Seating and Comfort: tailgating can be an all day affair – it is critical that you have places to sit, shade and shelter from weather.
- Folding chairs or camping chairs: there are many options now – I prefer Classics but consider the Two-seater with heat
- portable tables: all the food from above needs to have a table – This model from Coleman has a prep area for the grill master
- Inflatable couch: hardcore tailgaters will be extra comfortable with this Inflatable couch set
- Portable shade canopy or umbrella: for fair-skinned fans like me protection from the sun is critical. These Canopy tents are also handy for dodging rain.
- Entertainment: make sure you have different entertainment options for your guests ranging from tunes or games to more active pursuits.
- A waterproof Bluetooth speaker allows you to rock your pregame playlist in all weather!
- Portable TV or projector for watching pre-game coverage: this projector and screen will allow for a massive view of other games or legendary highlights.
- Tailgating games (cornhole, ladder toss, Kan Jam, etc.): games ensure there is fun and activity for all ages.
- Decor and Team Spirit: you need to ensure you fully rep your team so your tailgate stands out whether you are at home or on a road trip.
- Team banners, flags, and signage
- Face paint, temporary tattoos, and team apparel
- Team-themed tablecloths, plates, and cups
- Hygiene and Cleanup: this is never the fun stuff but it’s important for you and your guests that all the basics required to clean up after yourselves is available. Nothing worse than having buffalo sauce stuck on your fingers all day! Also you don’t want to be a slob…
- Hand sanitizer and wet wipes
- Trash bags and recycling bins
- Paper towels or napkins
- Grill cleaning supplies
